After School Art Club (5-10 years )

Book your place on our weekly after school club for 5-10 year olds.
Over five weeks, children will be guided through the process of creating their own artworks and learning new skills, led by experienced artist facilitator Beth Rodway. See below for the session plans.
Due to the capacity of our studio, it’s not possible for parents and carers to stay with children but don’t worry our cafe will be open until 5.15pm for parents to enjoy a coffee and take in the view. All materials will be provided.
Wednesday 12 June – Animal masks
For our first session, the kids will create their own animal masks using template masks, paint, pencils and collage.
Wednesday 19 June – Seascape Art
Inspired by the Hastings coastline, we will use natural found materials (coral, pebbles, shells etc from the beach) with paints and colouring pencils to make a seaside collage. We will use basic watercolour techniques for the waves and learn how to blend blues and greens to create the sea.
Wednesday 26 June – Self Portrait
Mirrors will be provided and the kids will be asked to draw what they see. We will focus on basic shapes for the head, eyes, nose and mouth. We will then move on to adding in superhero costumes, powers and accessories.
Wednesday 3 July – Drawing through storytelling
Beth will read part of the story ‘There’s a tiger in the garden’ by Lizzie Stewart (suitable for ages 5-10) and the kids will draw a character from the book and the setting for an adventure. We will finish the story for our characters, using our imagination through drawing.
Wednesday 10 July – Space Art – Solar System Mobile
For our last session we will paint the planets onto spheres and attach them to a space themed background, learning the correct order from the sun. If there’s time, we can add in some rockets!
