Quentin Blake

The New Dress

Sir Quentin Blake, Hastings Contemporary's Artist Patron, celebrates the opening of the new gallery with an exhibition of new drawings in his distinctive style, in response to the transformation of the gallery.

Sir Quentin Blake is Hastings Contemporary’s first Artist Patron and has continued to support the gallery with his commitment to producing new works to display at the art gallery in his home town of Hastings.

Quentin Blake: The New Dress displays brand new drawings by the much loved artist. Playfully exploring the idea of transformation and recycling by depicting characters modelling dresses made from folded and wrapped paper.

All works featured have been produced using graphite on paper.

‘What I could never have imagined is that someone would build an art gallery at the end of my road’ – Quentin Blake

Hastings Contemporary would like to thank Quentin Blake for his continued commitment as an Artist Patron to the gallery. The gallery would also like to thank Black Shed Gallery for their ongoing partnership for framing the works displayed.
