SCREENPRINTING WITH NATURAL DYES

6pm–9pm
£80 / £64 low wage concession

Learn to make printing inks from plant materials and screenprint your own designs onto fabric on this two-week course with printmaker Cath Bristow.

Week one
We will start with ink-making demonstrations using seasonal plants such as tansy and weld, alongside dried dyestuffs such as madder and indigo. We will combine these with natural thickeners to make vibrant plant-based colours. You will learn fixing instructions to help make your colours last.

We will then screenprint natural dye samples onto fabric, mix inks to create different tones and apply modifiers such as vinegar and soda ash to alter the colours, often with surprising results!

Week two
We will review our test samples and focus on making a larger screenprinted work based on your chosen natural dye palette.

No prior experience is necessary and all materials will be provided. All sales are final. We are unable to offer refunds.

Workshop dates: Thursday 25 June and Thursday 2 July, 6pm-9pm.
