PORTRAIT DRAWING
6pm-8pm (3-week course)
£80 / £64 low wage concession
Learn to capture personality and expression in your portraits and experiment with a range of media, in this three-week course with artist Alice Hesketh.
Week 1: You will study facial proportions and learn how to map out the beginning of a portrait using comparative measuring techniques. With charcoal you will create a tonal range to explore shadows and shapes within the face.
Week 2: You will review the proportions of the face working from a live model. You will study the head at different angles and start to look closer at achieving a likeness. You will also be asked to consider the importance of communication between the artist and sitter and how it can help the portrait process.
Week 3: This week will focus on facial features (eyes, nose, mouth and ears), looking specifically at shapes and tone. You will observe closely how people’s features differ and experiment with a variety of mark-making techniques.
By the end of the course participants will have a a better understanding of the anatomy of the head and using drawing techniques to create more realistic portraits.
All materials provided, suitable both for beginners and those who enjoy drawing people and would like more practice and guidance.
