Explore, create and play your way around the gallery this October half-term, with activities in every space and an artist-led workshop in the studio.

Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum, our activities will take you back 900 years to explore the events that culminated in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Activities:

  • Design and make your own block prints on fabric inspired by images from the Bayeux Tapestry
  • Create a collaborative woven artwork using fabric and yarn
  • Draw a comic strip telling the story of your own personal triumph or small victory
  • Collage your own strange beasts inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry’s borders

Led by artists Chantelle Brett and Claire Griffiths.

No need to book, just drop in.

As always, under 18s go free. Gallery admission prices apply: local adults £5.50, other concessions available.

Meet the artists

CHANTELLE BRETT

A Hastings-based illustrator inspired by nature, colour, and pattern, Charlotte's work reimagines lifestyle & everyday characters, through a vibrant, maximalist lens.

Chantelle loves blending hand-drawn textures & mixed media, and creates cosy stories and playful designs that celebrate the joy of noticing the world around us.

CLAIRE GRIFFITHS

Claire Griffiths is an artist and facilitator based in Sussex, with a First-class MA in Inclusive Arts Practice. Her work is rooted in social engagement, collaboration, and the belief that creativity is a vital tool for community connection and well-being. As a practising ceramicist, she views clay as a democratic, shared language capable of grounding people and breaking down artistic barriers.

Drawing on extensive experience delivering sessions across diverse community settings, her facilitation approach prioritises experimentation, inclusivity, and connection. Claire creates safe, welcoming spaces where people of all backgrounds and abilities can explore new techniques, build confidence, and take meaningful creative risks together
