BOTANICAL INK MAKING

Use fresh seasonal plants and dried plant material to create a unique range of vibrant colourful drawing inks.

On this one-day workshop you will learn how to make natural inks from flowers, leaves, roots and bark; experiment with natural modifiers such as lemon juice to change individual colours; intermix inks to further extend your natural palette, and learn how to preserve inks for future use.

We will use dip pens and brushes to create ink samples and colour explorations on different papers.

At the end of the day you will have your notes and accompanying colour samples, as well as a natural ink to take away.

MEET THE ARTIST

Cath Bristow

Cath is a printmaker and natural dyer using paper, print and fabric to engage with communities across the South East. She has been leading school and community workshops and projects for over 25 years focusing on making printmaking accessible to everyone. In 2021 she co-founded East Side Print CIC, an open access screenprinting studio in East Brighton. Cath Co-directs the studio teaching courses, managing open access and facilitating outreach. For the last 5 years her own practice has focused on making natural dye inks and pigments which she uses in her work. Cath studied MA in fine art textiles at Goldsmiths college, trained on Jenny Deans natural dye course and is a member of the Ditchling Dyers.
