Community Shoutout – April

This is a spotlight celebrating our friends, local heroes, and the many great creative organisations and businesses who are responding to the current crisis in innovative ways. We are proud to be a part of a town that is so willing to support those in need. It is something that has always set Hastings apart, and will sustain us through these times.

📣 The Hastings Hastings Emergency Action Response Team (HEART for short) is now more than 1000 volunteers strong and continuing to provide vital assistance to those who need help with shopping, collecting medications, posting mail, dog walking and other support. HEART is also working closely with Hastings Borough and East Sussex County Councils, the NHS, Hastings Voluntary Action, Hastings Foodbank and a host of other organisations, to provide wider critical community support. Check out for more info, or go over to their Facebook group.

📣 Hannah Caney’s yoga sessions at the gallery on a Sunday are much missed, and we can’t wait to have her back and throwing some (calm, peaceful) shapes. For now, Hannah is now running daily yoga classes online via the marvels of the Zoom app (and from what we hear, things are going swimmingly). If you want to try a session yourself, please book online the normal way via Hannah’s Old Town Yoga website:

📣 Our peers at Project Artworks have put together an absolutely wonderful online resource centre with links to practical advice, information and services that are helping to support families and individuals in new and practical ways during the Covid-19 crisis, including: their exemplary Peer Support Network and associated events; practical support & advice for carers; ideas and links to activities that support wellbeing; and much, much more. Find out more via their website:

Three cheers to our friends and neighbours! We are incredibly proud of the community spirit here in Hastings. It truly warms the cockles. If you’d like to make some suggestions for who should appear in future Shoutouts please email
